| Name |
Loriculus
philippensis philippensis, Philippine hanging parrot, colasissi |
| Distribution |
This race of
the Philippine endemic is found in Luzon, Catanduanes, Marinduque,
Banton and Polillo |
| Habitat |
Forest |
| Remarks |
The smallest
parrot in the Philippines is uncommon on Polillo, although it is probably
one of the most common birds kept as a pet. This species is not merely
a forest resident but will also colonise city gardens (Kennedy et
al 2000). It was only recorded from two formal study sites on Polillo
and in a forest patch near Sibulan watershed reserve. Discussions
suggest the species is far more wide-spread than these records suggest,
though hunting for the pet trade is a cause for concern. |
